We came home from Butterworth this afternoon as planned and a hospice intake nurse and social worker met us in our home shortly after we had arrived. Some new equipement – primarily a hospital bed with a special mattress to help prevent/protect pressure wounds – had been delivered earlier in the day.
After intake, we hosted a grill fest for our kids, my parents, and one of my sisters. Unforutnately, Penny and I missed most of the dinner while I helped her deal with issues related to her GJ tube, but it was good to have everyone around for the evening as we begin the transition to hopsice care.
It was especially good to have our dauther Nik there. Nik arrived yesterday evening from Minneapolis and came to the hospital with Jason and some Indian take out foot for us to eat together. Then I returned home with Jason to move the bed Penny had been using out of our living room to make room for the new bed while Nik visited with Penny at the hospital. I also did a bit of tidying and medical supplies inventory organization in advance of the many supplies we expect to be delivered over the next few days.
Tomorrow our niece Paige is planning to arrive from Rochester, MN (with our 4-month old great nephew) for a few days.
We are hoping for a couple good days with Nik and Paige while they are here.
