Lake Wobegon Days

It has been a (mostly) quiet week at our house.

Some days, like yesterday, have been sleepy days. Penny didn’t wake up until noon, had breakfast, and then slept the rest of the day except when I woke her up for meds, wound care, etc.

Other days she has had some periods of alert time and enjoyed brief visits with friends and family, including an unexpected phone call with niece Paige a few days ago. It’s hard to predict when the alert times will come or how long they will last, but we try to take advantage of them when they happen.

This morning she woke up around 8 and has been enjoying a leisurely breakfast and chatting a bit. It’s now 10 and it looks like she is settling in for another nap. But she did just ask about zoom church, so we’ll see how much of that she stays awake for. (And bonus points for correctly identifying what day it is – that’s often a challenge in the morning.)

Friday for the first time in a long time – probably the first time since beginning hospice – Penny had a bought of nausea and needed break through nausea meds. She felt pretty lousy for a couple of hours, but then things returned to normal and there hasn’t been another episode like that since.

Overheard. Here are some of the more interesting things Penny has said in the last week. See if you can figure out what they mean.
