Room with a view

The thrombectomy was done at 8:30 this morning and seems to have gone well. All the clotted material was removed and the stent is clear again.

There was some extra bleeding afterwards, so Penny stayed in the PACU until about 1pm and she is on bed rest until 4 am, but things have been looking good all afternoon.

We’ve been moved to the Meijer Heart Center for recovery because the nurses here deal with post-thrombectomy care all the time. The room here is much nicer. We have a sofa, several chairs, and a small round table, and it still feels roomy. Out the window, I can see the hospital roof, but from the bed Penny mostly sees the sky.  This is an upgrade from last night’s view into a parking structure.

So we plan to enjoy a relaxing evening here and are hoping we can go home tomorrow.

Current orders in the system are for no food for three weeks, but I expect there will be more conversation about this tomorrow.

Alisa Tigchelaar: So glad to hear that the clot has cleared up, and that Penny was or remains at a place that deals with thrombectomies on the regular; also that it has more room and better views for her (and you all). Praying for wisdom about eating versus tube feedings, and that significant complications will continue to resolve. Much love. 💕

Susan Langeland: Thinking about you, Penny. Praying, too. Love, Susan

Mary Hulst: Praying you are able to rest at home soon.

Stacey Wieland: Grateful for this update. Praying for continued strength and courage as you navigate each day. Sending so much love to you and Penny.

Jim and Andrea: What a relief to have the clot finally gone! I guess you don't understand what it is to have to go without eating unless you have had to do that yourself. I have had patients/residents try to describe it. They have told me going without eating is disorienting because so much in life (besides nutrition) revolves around food/eating. I am sure the two of you and your family will try to discover ways of having a sense of family time and oasis in the day that meals bring - but without food, if it comes to that. If anyone can do it, you guys can! Hopefully Penny will be discharge-ready soon!

Glen Boer: Thank you for the update, and very glad to hear that the procedure when very well... Keep you both and the family in our prayers 🙏

Chriss Pruim: thanks for the update Randy. thankful for your positive attitude. we will keep praying!
