Today has been a waiting day. We weren’t able to get the thrombectomy scheduled today, but we are on the schedule for tomorrow. The time has moved from 2pm, to 11 am, to 8am. That time is likely to stick. Because Penny has an alergy to contrast die, they have started a 13-hour steroid prep that implies a fairly narrow window in which the procedure can be done.

Because of the uncertainty about the time of the procedure, Penny hasn’t been allowed to eat anything other than a few ice chips since we arrived at the ER yesterday afternoon.  Fortunately the tube feeding is going pretty well today (at half the rate we usually do at home), so she is getting some calories.

We have heard different things about how long until she can eat. At one extreme, one doctor has suggested eating nothing for three weeks to let the stomach issues work themselves out without the added load of doing digestion. At the other extreme, one doctor suggested we could already have moved to clear liquids if we weren’t preparing for anesthesia. I’m guessing this will be a topic of conversation after tomorrow’s procedure.

It also isn’t clear to us when Penny will be discharged. At least one conversation suggested it could be as soon as tomorrow if the thrombectomy happens early in the day and goes well.  We have also had medical folks talk about checking in with us again on Monday.

So we’ll see how things go tomorrow, and take it from there.
