This morning began early.  Overnight blood work indicated a number of issues.  Penny's hemoglobin dropped below 7, several of her electrolytes were out of normal ranges, and one of her blood cultures came back positive for a bacterial infection.  This led to some additional blood work early this morning to confirm the overnight readings and to prepare for today's blood transfusion and electrolyte infusions.

We are still waiting to talk to infectious disease about whether there will be a change of antibiotics and whether they can be done orally at home or must be done IV here.

Regarding the hemoglobin, we consulted with GI, and they would like to do a scope tomorrow to get some more information about the bleeding that has been happening for the last several weeks.

So it looks like we will be here at least one more night, possibly longer.

Regarding yesterday's "flood", we learned from the nurses this morning that a dialysis machine one floor up overflowed.  We've seen various facilities personnel on the floor dealing with the clean up.  Meanwhile, we are all settled into a new, dry room down the hall from the previous room.

Comments

Susan Langeland: May God give you patience and continued hope. I’m thankful the bacteria in Penny’s blood has been detected and we pray, whether by IV antibiotics or pills it will be knocked out swiftly. Again, Bob and I are in the car, having been informed by my oncologist that the blood draw yesterday only did his new, additional test, and not the standing orders. Oh well. BTW, Thanks for giving us the answer to yesterday’s dripping mystery, Randy. My mind kept wondering…

Mary Hulst: May God give you each day your daily bread--what you need in that moment.

Benita Wolters-Fredlund: Sorry to hear about these additional complications. I hope you are able to come home soon.

Chriss Pruim: continued prayers that you can go home soon.

George Monsma, Jr.: Sorry for the complications and the extension of the hospital stay. Praying that the additional information will lead to more effective treatment.

Alisa Tigchelaar: Praying with you and others, Randy and Penny, that the current issues will be (detected and) resolved swiftly, and that you will be able to go home very soon. 💗
