We have the results of the CT scan. Two separate things were indicated.
Clots. There are blood clots higher up in the leg than the ultrasound could detect. This is the most likely cause for the leg swelling. It seems the swelling has increased overnight, especially around her ankle.
Nutcracker phenomenon. The scan also reveals compression of a renal vein. This is known as nutcracker phenomenon or nutcracker syndrome. It's unclear if this is leading to any symptoms, and also unclear (to the oncology team) what the cause or treatment might be. We are being referred to another team about this.
Penny will be here at least another night, possibly longer, depending on what the treatment plan is.
The good news is that she is feeling pretty good. (She's knitting as I type this.) Often when we have been in the hospital, she has been feeling pretty lousy.
