In the ER

After stopping the study drug on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday were quite a bit better than the 10 previous days.  (Back to "queezy" rather than "nauseous".)  But late yesterday afternoon Penny starting having abdominal pain that continued to get worse through the evening.

We've been in the ER since about 1:30 am, but should be moving to a regular room "soon".  IV pain and nausea meds have helped a lot, and Penny has mostly been sleeping since 3:30 or so.  Most likely we are dealing with a partial bowel obstruction.  For now the plan is to wait it out and hope it resolves on its own.  This has worked in the past.  It's not the most pleasant wait, and then once things clear, they usually want her to stay in the hospital a while longer than she would prefer.

In the past this has cleared up in as little as a day or two or taken as long as a couple weeks.  And there are a few differences compared to past episodes, including the preceding period of nausea and more severe and persistent pain.  So it's hard to estimate how long things might take.

For now it's a waiting game.
