Change in protocol

Yesterday when the scheduling nurse called we learned about some changes to the protocol. Because things are going smoothly, the between-treatment check-ins will be discontinued and scans will happen every 12 weeks (2 cycles, 4 treatments).    That means fewer appointments and blood draws.

Also, Penny will be starting thyroxine replacement tomorrow. Immunotherapies can mess up the thyroid gland, so this is one of the things they have been monitoring all along. It may take some time to get the dosing just right, but we’re hoping this addresses some recent fatigue and being cold all the time. This is considered a very treatable condition — some people take thyroxine for years because their thyroid glands don’t work at all.

All in all, this seems like good news.
