And we're off...

We arrived at the START clinic a bit before 8am this morning.  Currently Penny is in the "pre" phase -- a couple hours of fluids followed by 30 minutes of some pre-medications to combat potential issues related to the actual drug.  The drug infusion will likely begin around 11 or so.  That goes for 2 hours, but then we'll stay here for an additional 4 hours so that blood can be drawn at various times to see how the drug is being metabolized.

My arithmetic suggests that sometime between 5 and 6 she'll be transported to the hospital for overnight observation -- assuming everything goes smoothly, in which case today should be long but mostly boring.

Fortunately we have a bay by a window (not much of a view, but at least there is some natural light) and so far it has been relatively quiet.  It's much less busy here than at Lemmen Holton.  At this point, it appears that only 3 bays are in use.

Susan Langeland: I’m here at Lemmen Holton getting my heart checked by an oncology cardiologist. “You were on some very strong drugs!” she exclaimed, “but your heart looks healthy and shows no problems.” Whew. I’d been told one of the drugs I was getting was known to cause damage to the heart, so what a relief. All these little steps and checks we face to combat cancer…praying that all your steps and checks through today and tonight go very well with the drugs doing just what they are meant to do with no harm to other parts of your body. Love you, Penny and Randy!

Marie VanderLinde : Scott and I are for boring and an easy day and night!
