Yesterday was another day of nausea, so we’re taking some steps back.
Liquid diet (perhaps “full liquid” if that goes well), IV fluids (to ward off dehydration) and meds (since pills and nausea don’t go well together), decreasing pain medication (because the pain management has been pretty good and because the meds can contribute to nausea), a new med that sometimes helps trigger gut motility, a CT scan to see if there is anything we are missing, and some additional meds because Penny is allergic to the contrast used for CT scans.
That’s a lot of moving parts. (“Yours is a complicated case.” ) And for some of the changes it can take 12 hours or longer to see what the results are.
So it looks like it’s going to be a couple long, slow days here. Just waiting for everything to get to a good steady state while continuing to monitor for any possible complications beyond ileus and medication interactions.

Tony Holmes Curran: Im praying for you both every day and am so grateful for these updates. We’re in this journey with you for the long haul.
Susan Langeland: A verse from a song we used to sing at the table as a prayer with our kids popped into my mind- ” For Hope and Grace and Loving Care we praise your name, Oh Lord.” Praying you will have these in tangible and spiritual ways today, Penny and Randy.
Mary Hulst: Praying for patience and for progress.
Kimberley Carlos Belez: Thank you for taking time to keep us updated, Randy! We are continuing to keep Penny and you and all the family in our prayers.
Teri Warners: Praying the Dr's can figure out how to juggle these many factors and for patience and peace in the meantime.
Pamela Plantinga: I'm praying that the moving parts start moving together instead of in opposite directions, that Penny's gut moves gently along with them, and that the days pass more quickly than expected.
