Slow Progress

That’s the goal for the next couple days.

Everything is going fine, and we will be good to go home as soon as we can manage diet, meds, and mobility at home.  But it is a slow process.

Penny moved to a liquid diet last night. A cup of jello was her first food since Sunday. Mid-day today, the transition off of IV meds began.  If all goes well, that’s a 48- to 72-hour process.  They don’t want to move too quickly and lose control of either pain or nausea in the process. We talk with the palliative care team multiple times a day to see how things are going.

We’ve had two walks so far today.  Everything is a bit more painful today. That’s normal and caused by a combination of the effort exerted yesterday and some new sources of pain as the gut begins to “wake up” and function again.  No causes for concern.

We may not post much the next couple days.  If all goes well it should be pretty boring stuff: eat, walk, take pills, sit in a chair, sleep, …
